Just Suggestions? (by Jeff Neff)

By Jeff Neff. Instead of making the government larger by adding the Democrats’ current healthcare idea, why don’t they use their overwhelming majority to deregulate interstate commerce? Prices for healthcare would drop instantly as soon as competition became national, but I’m afraid that neither competition nor your well-being is Congress’ top priority.

Suppose that government healthcare would become mandatory for all legal citizens. Soon, you will begin to hear about safety in everyday life, you know – to prevent accidents. You may see commercials recommending that you wear a reflective vest when you run, not talk on your cell phone and walk at the same time, etc.

These “suggestions” are merely big government advocates embedding thoughts into the public’s mind as if these safety practices were already made law. I drive and talk on my cell phone, but sometimes people can’t believe it or understand why – but it’s legal! That’s what I mean.

Here’s an example that is happening before our very eyes. Most of you have seen those signs around Altoona saying, “I promise not to move firewood.” Why not? It’s legal! But after months of the public seeing this, you can expect to see a new government regulation restricting our ability to use firewood as we see fit – with little or no opposition.

Now, imagine all of the things that could be “suggested” for you so that you wouldn’t have to go to the doctor (to save costs). If you get a cold it’s your fault because you didn’t get a flu shot and the government will not pay. If a car hits you, it’s your fault for not wearing a reflective vest and the government will not pay. Do you have a migraine? It’s your fault for being on the internet longer than two hours! Guess who pays more than just co-pay?

Although I am not a healthcare expert, I understand that this plan presents a terrifying challenge to Liberty, and the security of our freedoms we take for granted.
