The annual Christmas parade and fireworks display is this Thursday evening, December 3 in Downtown Altoona. This popular event has seen thousands downtown the past few years since it was re-started.
This year, there’s a very easy way for you to help the community at the same time! Bring along non-perishable food items in bags, and Altoona Area football players will collect the food along the parade route. Food banks are low, I’m told, and this will be a way to help keep supplies up. The food will be distributed to the five local area food banks.
The parade begins at 6pm. Come early to get a first-row spot along the route!

Every year I’ve been there the sidewalks have been PACKED! Fun time. Question though — what’s a “Unity Tree”?
Also — didn’t mention this in the column, but Info on the parade can be found on our events calendar here at ILoveAltoona.com.
Sorry, we’d love to make it, but we’re havin’ a baby!
Be nice to know the route
